Restrict respondents to a specific area (masking layer)

Sometimes you may want to make sure that respondents either focus their map responses on a specific area or exclude some areas from consideration. This is how you can do this in Maptionnaire:

  1. Prepare a map layer that includes the borders for the areas. You can use a shapefile or other type of vector layer that you upload to Materials, or create the layer directly in Materials > Create a map.
  2. Add the map layer to the survey page on which you want to use it.
  3. Add the map question (e.g. Map point). Go to its Extra settings and scroll down.
  4. Select the map layer that includes the area borders.

By default, respondents are now unable to place points inside that area. If you instead want to restrict their responses INSIDE that area, toggle on the setting below.
