Open-ended responses (Sentiment analysis and word cloud)

In the analysis tool, you can:

  • Look at the text answers written by respondents
  • Filter them using different criteria (e.g. demographics, specific words)
  • Copy them as a list
  • Create a word cloud that shows which words appeared most often in responses
  • Analyze response data using AI-powered sentiment analysis

Viewing Responses to Open-Ended Questions:

  1. Go to Analyze. Add the open-ended question to the charts dashboard. This will display a table of all responses.
  2. Click the expand icon to edit the table.

Sentiment Analysis:

Sentiment analysis helps you understand the overall sentiment expressed in the responses. It generates a bar chart showing the distribution of sentiment categories (e.g., positive, negative, neutral) across all responses. Each response is assigned only one overall sentiment in the bar chart.

The table provides a more detailed breakdown of the sentiment associated with each response. For example, a response like "This place is important" might be assessed as 53% likelihood of being positive and 47% chance of being negative. The table includes:

  • The overall sentiment (the sentiment with the maximum likelihood).
  • The likelihood of each sentiment.
  • The original response text.
  • The language selected by the respondent.
  • A translation column: English translations for select languages.

Important Note about Translations: AI-powered sentiment analysis is currently available for a limited number of languages. Responses in less common languages are automatically translated into English before sentiment analysis is performed. In these cases, the English translation is displayed in the "Translation" column.

Word Cloud

A word cloud shows 250 most often occurring words in the open text responses left by respondents. You can exclude words (e.g. common conjunctions like "and") by typing them in the text field on the left.
