If you want to make your questionnaire available in multiple languages, you can use the translation tool to create translations with ease. The respondent can then choose their preferred language from a drop-down menu presented on the very first page of the questionnaire – you can also use specific URL parameters to direct them to the questionnaire in their language.

Select the languages.
Go to the Survey settings and select the Language tab.
- Main language: This is the original language of the questionnaire, meaning the language in which it was first created.
- Available languages: The languages in which the questionnaire should be available. The main language is automatically checked, but you need to choose the languages that you want to translate the questionnaire into. We add new languages to the list all the time depending on our clients' needs! If you can't find the language you need for your project, just send us a message at support@maptionnaire.com.

Access the translation tool.
Click Translate in the upper right corner of the screen.

Translate the content.
Translation is done one element and setting at a time. You can always see the original language, and can create multiple translations at the same time. (Click the image below to view it in a larger format)

Publish the translation
Remember to click the check mark every time you write something in the translation tool for it to be saved. Other than that, you don't need to save your work, but you need to click Publish in the upper right corner of the page for the translation to be published.
Translating images
If your maptionnaire includes images with text, you can upload their translated versions in the translation tool. First, add the images to Materials. Then simply choose them from a drop-down menu in the translation tool.
FAQ
Q: We would like to use a translator who is not part of our organization to translate the questionnaires. Is this possible?
A: Yes, it is possible. You can do this by inviting the translator to your project team and giving them the role of a Translator. This enables them to view the content of the questionnaires and pages and to use the translation tool. Please see the following articles about how to invite people and assign roles for them for more information on how to do this. Please note that the Translator role by default does not have rights to publish content although they can view and edit it. Therefore, if you do not give them the right to publish content, someone will need to do that for the translations to be activated.
Q: I would like to translate the questionnaire to a language that is not listed as available. What can I do?
A: If the languages that you need to use in your project are not listed, please contact us at support@maptionnaire.com
Q: My questionnaire is available in English, Spanish and Swahili. I want everyone to first view the English version by default. How do I force this?
A: When the questionnaire is available in multiple languages, the first language version shown is the one that matches their browser's preferred language. E.g. if their browser is set to English, then the English version is always shown first. However, you can also direct respondents to a specific language version by using a language code in the URL of the survey. Read more about this here.
Q: My survey is available in English and Spanish. I want to send a link to the English version to some participants and to Spanish for others. How do I do this?
