Show map responses by others (publicly visible responses)

This feature makes it possible for the respondent to see what places other respondents have marked on the map. You can choose to show the responses either on the same page on which respondents are asked to map OR at the end of the questionnaire.

Set up:

  1. Go to Questionnaire settings > Publication. Switch on Allow public responses

To show the responses on the very last page of the questionnaire (Note! This means that the last page must have a map background!) turn on Allow public responses Show public responses by others on last page

  2. Go to the Extra settings tab of each map question that you want to make public. Switch on Make responses public.

  3. If you want to also publish the responses given in the linked pop-up, repeat step #2 in the Extra settings of each question element included in the pop-up.

Please note that respondents have to click Submit at the end for their responses to be shown to everyone. Therefore, if you use this function, it may be a good idea to include an extra reminder of this at the end of the questionnaire.

  • Is there a way to update this setting retroactively? We would like to make previously submitted comments sharable/reviewable. That said, when this setting is updated, comments received prior to this update do not appear within the map. Any guidance would be appreciated.

  • Hi Hans,

Unfortunately this setting does not work retroactively. This means that you can turn on the Show responses by others setting in the middle of data collection, but any comments received prior to the setting being turned on won't be shown publicly.

    Best regards,

    Asta from Maptionnaire Support

  • Thanks Asta,

Is there a reason for this setting? Historically this was not the case. We relied on this functionality. It is disappointing that the functionality of this has been limited.

We frequently like to share results with the community after the survey has run for a while but don't wish to distract initial responses from those of others. This helps with transparency when working with the public.

Reverting back to how it was would be greatly appreciated!

    Best,

  • Hi Hans,

Technically, there is a way around this. If you set the questions you want to show to others as public (steps #2 and #3 above), and then turn on the 'Allow public responses' -setting in the Questionnaire settings at a later stage, responses to those questions will become visible retroactively.

    Best regards,

    Asta
