API keys are useful if you want to create a real time integration with another service such as ArcGIS Online.
Go to Settings > API Keys.
- Click Add API Key.
Set an end date for the key (note! month first) and click Create.
Click Show.
There's an API key for each type of geometry (point, line, polygon). Copy the appropriate key URL and take it to ArcGIS.
The API key grants access to the response data of this questionnaire. Treat it with similar security you would treat a password.
Go to ArcGIS Online, click Add layer from URL.
Enter the URL that you copied from Maptionnaire and choose GeoJSON as the type of file. Then click Next.
If you intend to share the map publicly (e.g. via social media), choose the first option ("Create a hosted feature layer and add it to the map"). It creates a new layer in ArcGIS. The data is loaded from Maptionnaire only that one time. It is therefore not a real-time updated map (e.g. if the survey is still collecting data).
If you're taking the data to ArcGIS only to work on it with your team, you can choose the second option ("Reference the file from the URL and add it to the map"). It is not intended for public sharing. The data is not permanently stored in ArcGIS. Instead, every time the map is loaded, ArcGIS asks Maptionnaire for the latest version of the data. Our data API is rate-limited, which means we allow only about 10 requests per 30 seconds. It is enough for collaboration in a small team, but not enough if the map goes viral on social media.
Choose the most appropriate option and click Add to map.
The map data should now appear in ArcGIS Online. You can style and edit it as you wish! Please note that the entire survey results are linked with the map features. That means that if the ArcGIS map is set to be shared publicly, anyone can see the entire dataset, not just the map features.
