When your survey is ready, go to Translate.

Click Select languages.

Tick the languages from the list (the main language is always the language of the original version that forms the basis for the translation). You can also return to add further languages later.
- Finish selection by clicking Save.

You can now see all the content in the survey listed page-by-page (1). If you selected more than one language to translate, note that there are different sections for each language (2) Click AI translation. If you don't want to use the AI feature, skip to #9.

Choose the tone that you want (e.g. formal or informal). You can also add specific instructions for the AI. Confirm by clicking "Translate".

It may take a moment for the translations to be generated, so be patient! The "Untranslated values" will turn into a green zero once ready.

If you have more than one language, select the next language tab to create the next translation.

You can still edit the translations by expanding the sections and editing the text.

Translations are saved automatically
but if the survey is already published in either test or data collection mode, you need to re-publish it again to add the translations to the live version of the survey.
What if I need to make changes to the survey?
If you need to make any changes to the main language or 'base' version of the survey, don't worry! Just return to Translate and click AI translate again.

How does the respondent choose in which language to view the questionnaire?
Maptionnaire is able to detect the preferred language of the respondent's browser and offer a corresponding version of the questionnaire (if available). The respondent can also always change the language from a drop-down menu on the very first page of the questionnaire. If you have a multilingual questionnaire, but want to make sure that everyone accesses it first in the original language, add a language code to the questionnaire URL.
What if my questionnaire has images with text?
If your survey includes images that contain text, you can upload their translated versions in the translation tool.
We would like to use a translator who is not part of our organization to translate the questionnaires. Is this possible?
Yes, it is possible. You can do this by inviting the translator to your project team and giving them the role of a Translator. This enables them to view the content of the questionnaires and pages and to use the translation tool. Please see the following articles about how to invite people and assign roles for them for more information on how to do this. Please note that the Translator role by default does not have rights to publish content although they can view and edit it. Therefore, if you do not give them the right to publish content, someone will need to do that for the translations to be activated.
I would like to translate my survey to a language that is not listed. What can I do?

My survey is available in English and Spanish. I want to send a link to the English version to some participants and to Spanish for others. How do I do this?
You can do this by adding a language code to the end of the URL. Read more about this here.
