FAQ

How does the visitor choose in which language to view the page?

Maptionnaire is able to detect the preferred language of the visitor's browser and offer a corresponding version of the Project Page (if available). They can also always change the language from a drop-down menu on the top right corner. If you have a multilingual Project Page, but want to make sure that everyone accesses it first in the original language, add a language code to the questionnaire URL.

What if the page has images with text?

If it includes images that contain text, you can upload their translated versions in the translation tool.

We would like to use a translator who is not part of our organization to translate the Project Pages. Is this possible?

Yes, it is possible. You can do this by inviting the translator to your project team and giving them the role of a Translator. This enables them to view the content of the questionnaires and Project Pages and to use the translation tool. Please see the following articles about how to invite people and assign roles for them for more information on how to do this. Please note that the Translator role by default does not have rights to publish content although they can view and edit it. Therefore, if you do not give them the right to publish content, someone will need to do that for the translations to be activated.

I would like to translate the Project Page to a language that is not listed. What can I do?

If the languages that you need to use in your project are not listed, please contact us at support@maptionnaire.com

The Project Page is available in English and Spanish. I want to send a link to the English version to some participants and to Spanish for others. How do I do this?

You can do this by adding a language code to the end of the URL. Read more about this here.

OLD TRANSLATION FLOW (PRE March 18, 2026)

  1. Create a Project Page for each language version.

To make the process faster, it's a good idea to first create one Project Page and then create copies of it to translate (Select the questionnaire > Actions > Copy). This way you don't need to build the page up from scratch each time. Select the correct language for each page under Settings.

  2. Edit the items on the copied page to the new language.
When you are done, remember to publish this page.
  3. On the original page, go to Languages in the upper right corner of the editor, or choose it from the menu on the dashboard.

  4. Link the pages together.

There are two lists in this menu. On the right side, you can see all the pages in your team or subgroup. Choose all the pages that are different language versions of this page by clicking Add.

  5. And that's it!

Now when your respondents view the page, they can always choose different versions from the language menu. The version that they will be shown depends on the settings of their internet browser.

Remember! When you edit one page, make sure the changes are made and published in all other language versions as well.

In this video you can view the process of translating a page:
