Describe your survey in a few sentences and AI builds a full draft for you: pages, questions, map questions and intro texts. It usually takes under a minute. The draft is a starting point, so you can change or remove anything it creates.

Start an AI draft
Go to Questionnaires, click New questionnaire and choose Build with AI.

Describe your survey
Choose the Main language. This is the language you write the survey in. It doesn't decide which language respondents see first.
In Describe your questionnaire, tell AI what you need. The more specific you are, the less you need to edit afterwards. A good description covers:

Already have questions? Paste them in, with their answer options. AI turns them into a survey and adds what's missing, such as a welcome page.
Click Continue.

Add your map material
Map material is your own map data, such as planned sites, district boundaries or routes. Respondents can see it on the map and answer questions about it. Choose one option:
- No map material

Yes, in my Materials: tick the layers you want to use. Your uploaded material is stored in Materials.

Yes, but I haven't uploaded it yet: choose Upload now to upload a shapefile or GeoJSON file, or Add later and describe what the material will show (for example planned playground sites). AI creates the question and adds a note reminding you to attach the layer.
For each layer, choose how respondents should use it:
Option What respondents do Use as background only See the layer on the map. They don't interact with it. Click to show information only Click a feature to read a description of it. Nothing is recorded. You can add images to the pop-up afterwards. Use features as answer options Pick one or more features as their answer, like a multiple-choice question with map features as the options. Ask questions about each feature Click one feature at a time and answer questions about that place. -
Generate and review your draft
Click Generate. This can take up to a minute. The draft opens in preview: click through it as a respondent would, then click Edit in the top menu to start editing.
Before you share the survey, check:
- The starting view of each map page. AI drafts may open zoomed out too far. Set the starting view on every map page (see Set up map elements in your survey).
- Map material marked "add later". Attach the layers AI left notes for.
- Wording and tone. Make sure the questions sound like your organization.
- Required questions. Check which questions respondents must answer.
Want to change the draft? You can't go back to the description step once the draft is generated. Instead, open Edit with AI in the editor (the sparkle icon, top right) and ask for one change at a time. Edit with AI is available while your survey is in draft. You can also edit everything by hand, just like in any other survey.
Good to know
- AI drafts are a starting point. Always review the content before publishing.
- Translate the survey only when the content is final.
