What is a geoJSON file?

A geoJSON is a geospatial file format containing vector data, such as polygons (areas, borders), lines and points. It can contain multiple different geometries.

Are there any requirements for geoJSON files used in Maptionnaire?

The files should support GeoJSONs is WGS84 with the latitude and longitude units in decimal degrees.

How to upload a GeoJSON to Maptionnaire:

  1. In the survey, go to Map and layout. Under Map overlays, click New and select GeoJSON

  3. Give the geoJSON a Public title – it will be shown when the respondent hovers their cursor over the map (unless you give it another name in the legend).
  4. If you want to add place names to the map, choose the correct attribute column under Feature labels and turn on Show feature labels. If you have a lot of overlapping labels, consider turning on Declutter labels. It's also possible to change the visual appearance and placement of the labels
  5. Set the color, size and opacity of the features (style is automatically transferred to Maptionnaire). For lines and polygons, the stroke can also be dashed.

You can also style the features by attribute.

  6. Click Save to finish.

Don't have a geoJSON but would like to create one? See these instructions on how to do this in Maptionnaire.
