Every page has a background, and the survey form sits on top of it. Use a map when you want respondents to answer questions about places. Use an image or a color for everything else. You set both the background and the layout with the buttons above the page in the editor.
Choose a background when you add a page
Click Add page and choose:
- Map background: for pages with map questions, or when you want to show a map.
- Non-map background: for intro texts, regular questions and background questions.
You can change the background later.
Change a page's background
- Select the page in the page list on the left.
- Click Page settings above the page.
- Under Page background, choose one of these options.
| Background | What it is |
|---|---|
| Map backgrounds | |
| Map or GIS image | A basemap, or a basemap with overlays on top. Overlays can be GIS layers or plan images placed on the map with coordinates: georeference the image in Maptionnaire, or upload it as a GeoTIFF. Answers have coordinates and can be taken to GIS software. See Set up map elements in your survey. |
| Non-GIS interactive image | An image file with no coordinates, such as an illustration or a photo, that isn't a plan. Respondents can place pins (comments) on it and draw on it. Answers can't be taken to GIS software. |
| Non-map backgrounds | |
| Background image | A photo or illustration behind the form. Respondents can't interact with it. |
| Color | A plain color. Pick it from the color selector or enter a color code. |
Choose the layout
Click the layout button (the two-arrow icon) above the page:
- Form layout: Narrow or Wide. A wide form leaves less of the background visible.
- Form alignment: Left, Center or Right. On map pages, move the form to the side where it covers the least important part of the map.
To use the same setting on every page, click the star next to the value. This makes it the default for the whole survey.
When the survey is viewed on a mobile device, the layout is automatically optimized to the screen.
Use the same map on other pages
On map pages, open the three-dot menu next to a basemap or layer in Page settings and choose Add to all pages. See Set up map elements in your survey.
