Add pop-up features to a map (Pop-up map/Click maps)

How can I add points/lines/areas to a map that the respondent clicks to see information and questions about those places?

Untitled

When using maps as part of your questionnaire, you can highlight specific places, routes or areas on the map and attach pop-ups with information and questions to them. The respondent clicks the feature to open the pop-up. This is called a Pop-up map (formerly click maps or clickable map objects).

  1. Prepare your map

To add a Pop-up map to your survey, you need a map layer that contains the features (points, lines, areas, grid cells) that the respondent should select from.

    • You can use any shapefile, geoJSON or WFS layer or create the map layer from scratch by using the Create a map function.
    • Make sure that each feature has a unique ID that's listed in its attributes. It should contain only whole numbers, no letter or decimals.
    • If you use Create a map, the IDs are automatically added to the layer.
    • If you're not sure how to do this, contact support@maptionnaire.com.

Example: We have a shapefile with points that we want to make selectable. We've added a column to the attributes that assigns every point a number.

  2. Add the map layer to the survey

Go to the survey page where you want to add the pop-up map. Choose Map and layout and upload the map layer by clicking New

  3. Under ID key, select the column (in the attribute table) that contains the unique IDs.

  4. Decide how the features should be visualized (color, size, labels, styling by attribute...).

  5. Add the Pop-up map element from the element library.

  6. Select the map layer with the features.

  7. Write the question and determine other element settings as needed.

  8. Click Create pop-up. Add the content and questions to the pop-up.

  9. Add the content and questions to the pop-up. You can also pull any data from the attribute table columns. For example, here we have added data about each park by adding a Heading element and the name of the column in the attribute table.

You can add content from the attribute table (e.g. different information about the national parks) by using the Heading and Text elements. Enter the column name in {curly brackets}.

You can also add images in this way – contact support@maptionnaire.com for further info. Then add each URL to the attribute table (or properties/layer info) and make a note of the name of that column. When editing the pop-up, add the Image element and write the name of the column (e.g. "Photos") under Data key for url.

  10. Test in Preview.
