Login and access

Where do I go to log in?

Once you've accepted an invitation and created a password, go to app.maptionnaire.com OR us.maptionnaire.com (only if you are US-based) to log in. Choose Login from the upper right corner. Login with the same details that you used when accepting the team invitation.

I've been sent an invitation, but it has not appeared in my email?

Try these first:

  1. Check the spam folder.
  2. Ask the person who invited you to send you another invitation. Ask them to confirm what email address they sent it to is correct.

I have accepted an invitation to a team but I still cannot access it?

Log in to Maptionnaire (app.maptionnaire.com) and go to Account settings. Check that you have verified your account.

I forgot my password and am trying to reset it. However, I am not receiving the reset email. Why is this?

If you don't receive a reset email, remember to first check your spam folder. Make sure that the email you resent the link to is correctly spelled and that it is the email you used to register to Maptionnaire. A reset link can only be sent to an email address that is already in our system.

The link in the invitation does not work? How long is the invitation active?

The invitation is active for four days (4 x 24h) from the moment it was sent to you.

The person I've invited says that they have not received the invitation email?

  1. Check the spam folder.
  2. Send another invitation, and make sure that you have spelled their email correctly.

The person I invited said that they accepted the invitation but can't see any questionnaires when they log in?

Tell them to check that they have verified their account (in Account settings).

Can I restrict what a member can see or do in the team?

Yes, please see this article for further details.

Questionnaire elements

Pop-up and Select maps

What is an ID key? Why is it needed?

Every map feature in a pop-up/select map layer needs to have an ID. When the respondent clicks e.g. map feature #5, Maptionnaire records that feature #5 was clicked. Without the ID, you would not know which feature respondents clicked when answering the questions.

The ID key is the name of the column under which the IDs are listed in the map file's attributes. For more information, please see this article.

Can each pop-up have different content, e.g. name and description from the attributes?

Yes, just use Text element and add the name of the column from the attributes in 'curly' brackets { }. Make sure that you spell the column title exactly as same way it is in the attributes, incl. capitalizations.

Can I show a different image in each pop-up?

Yes, you can. For this you need to have added the images to a cloud (please contact support@maptionnaire.com for further info). Then add each URL to the attribute table (or properties/layer info) and make a note of the name of that column. When editing the pop-up, add the Image element and write the name of the column (e.g. "Photos") under Data key for url.

Accessibility

How can I make sure my questionnaire is accessible with a screen reader?

See this article.

Do you comply with ADA? Do you comply with WCAG 2.1?

Maptionnaire follows the practices and standards set by the EU Accessibility Directive and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG2.1) developed by the W3C. We are committed to implementing level AA of WCAG2.1. WCAG is a set of international standards for web content accessibility, which provides the technical guidelines to achieve accessibility online. It is also one of the main accessibility guides recommended by the US Department of Justice for ensuring ADA compliance (source).

Translations and languages

How does the respondent choose in what language to view the questionnaire?

Maptionnaire is able to detect the preferred language of the respondent's browser and offer a corresponding version of the questionnaire (if available). The respondent can also always change the language from a drop-down menu on the very first page of the questionnaire. If you have a multilingual questionnaire, but want to make sure that everyone accesses it first in the original language, add a language code to the questionnaire URL.

What if my questionnaire has images with text?

If your maptionnaire includes images that contain text, you can upload their translated versions in the translation tool. First, add the images to Materials. Then simply choose them from a drop-down menu in the translation tool.

We would like to use a translator who is not part of our organization to translate the questionnaires. Is this possible?

Yes, it is possible. You can do this by inviting the translator to your project team and giving them the role of a Translator. This enables them to view the content of the questionnaires and pages and to use the translation tool. Please see the following articles about how to invite people and assign roles for them for more information on how to do this. Please note that the Translator role by default does not have rights to publish content although they can view and edit it. Therefore, if you do not give them the right to publish content, someone will need to do that for the translations to be activated.

I would like to translate the questionnaire to a language that is not listed as available. What can I do?

If the languages that you need to use in your project are not listed, please contact us at support@maptionnaire.com

My survey is available in English and Spanish. I want to send a link to the English version to some participants and to Spanish for others. How do I do this?

You can do this by adding a language code to the end of the URL. Read more about this here.

You can also enter the View mode by going to Questionnaires main view > View

Will the URL change if I publish the questionnaire again in test mode or when I publish it for the final time?

No, the URL will stay the same.

Can the URL be customized?

Yes, go to Settings > Publication > Custom questionnaire URL.

Can I get a QR code to the questionnaire?

Yes, go to Publish and once the questionnaire has been published in test mode, you can download the QR code as SVG or PNG.

Is it possible to send unique links to each respondent?

Sometimes you may have a list of potential respondents and want to send each one an individualized link to track who has answered the survey. You can create the individualized links yourself on Excel and we also provide them as an extra service (price upon request, depends on the number of links needed). The panel tracking element should be added in the questionnaire to capture which links are used.

Can I track how respondents find out about the questionnaire?

Yes, by using UTM parameters in the URLs and adding an UTM tracker element to the questionnaire.

How do I close a survey?

Go to the questionnaire editor > Settings > toggle on Survey closes and pick a date and time. This does not require re-publishing. Once the set date and time has passed, the survey can no longer be accessed by the public.

Analysis and export of results data

Where do I see how many people responded to my survey?

Please see this article.

What does 'Submitted' mean?

Screenshot 2025-04-15 at 11.02.31 AM.png

Submitted means that the respondent clicked the Submit button on the last page of the questionnaire. The button does not need to be clicked for responses to be recorded, as they are saved immediately when a respondent interacts with the question.

In the analysis tool, you can filter out all respondents who did not submit their responses. Under charts for each question, you can also see how many people responded to each question.

In the Excel sheet of results, the column titled Submitted tells you how many respondents clicked it (TRUE) or did not (FALSE).

Why didn't all respondents submit their responses? Does this mean that some respondents did not answer all questions?

It is difficult to say why someone does not complete the entire survey – usually it may be because the respondent feels that the survey is too long or they don't have the time.

In the analysis tool, you can see how many submitted and un-submitted respondents answered each question. You can also use Filters to filter out all who did not

In what formats can I export the data?

As a shapefile (.shp), geoJSON or as an Excel file. In the analysis tool you can also export images (PNG) of the charts and maps. It's also possible to download all your charts in one Word docx.

How can I analyze data collected with a pop-up map?

Please see this article.

Do you have AI features that I can use?

Yes, please see the following articles:
