Maptionnaire has AI tools for building and translating your survey, moderating public responses, and analysing the results. This page lists them all in one place, with links to the full instructions.

The AI tools

Click a tool to see where to find it and what it does.

AI survey draft

Where to find it: Questionnaires > New questionnaire > Build with AI

Creates a first draft of a survey from a description of your topic, audience and goals, or from a draft you paste in. You can then edit everything as usual. How to

Edit with AI

Where to find it: Survey editor > Edit with AI (the sparkle icon, top right)

Makes changes to your survey while you work in the editor. Describe what you want in plain language, such as adding a question, rewriting a text or changing answer options, and it makes the change for you. It works on any draft survey, whether you started with AI or from scratch. You can undo the last change; check every change before you publish. How to

AI translation

Where to find it: Translation tool > AI translation

Translates your survey into the languages you add, in the tone you choose. Check the result before publishing, ideally with a native speaker. How to

Sentiment analysis

Where to find it: Analysis tool, on any open-text question

Classifies each open answer as positive, neutral or negative and shows the split as a chart. A quick first look at the tone. How to

AI tagging

Where to find it: Analysis tool, on an open-text question > Generate tags

Finds the 5–10 most common themes in the answers and tags each answer with them. You can edit the tags; they also appear in the Excel export. How to

Ask questions about your data

Where to find it: Analysis tool > AI button > Ask questions about data

Lets you ask questions about the responses shown in your current view, for example “Summarize the main concerns about this area”. Works well together with filters and spatial filters. How to

AI report

Where to find it: Analysis tool > AI button > Generate report automatically

Writes a full results report with a narrative, charts and map cluster analysis. You can edit every section, then download it or share it as a web page. How to

AI-ready text export

Where to find it: Export > txt

Exports your data together with the survey structure as a .txt file, so you can analyse it in an AI assistant of your choice. How to

AI moderation

Where to find it: Public responses settings

Checks open-text answers and uploads in public questions and hides content flagged as inappropriate before other respondents see it. You can review flagged items, see why they were flagged and restore them in Export > Moderate public responses. Map and multiple-choice answers are not checked. How to

Which analysis tool should I use?

  • For a quick sense of the tone: sentiment analysis.
  • To see what people talk about, and how often: AI tagging.
  • To answer a specific question, such as what people said about one area: filter the data, then ask questions about your data.
  • To share the results with others: the AI report.

For a closer comparison of the open-text tools, see Analyze open text responses with AI.

Check the results

AI tools save a lot of time, but treat their output as a draft. Check tags, summaries and reports against the actual responses before you publish or share them, especially when a theme is based on only a few answers.

How your data is handled

  • AI features that use response data (sentiment analysis, AI tagging, asking questions about your data, the AI report and AI moderation) run on AI models in AWS, in the same region where your response data is already stored – EU data stays in the EU, US data in the US. As of August 2026, these features use Claude Sonnet 4.6 on Amazon Bedrock. Response data never leaves Maptionnaire's AWS environment or region. The model does not retain your responses after processing them, and your data is not used to train AI models.
  • AI survey draft and Edit with AI also run on Claude Sonnet 4.6 on Amazon Bedrock, in the same AWS region. They only use your survey content and what you give them – your description, pasted draft or requests, and any map material you select – not response data.
  • AI translation uses Google Gemini. Only the content you translate (survey or Project Page texts) is sent – no response data.
